Service #4: Onsite Building-wide
Discipline Assessment

Key Elements:
- Element 1:
Staff Surveys:
Prior to the on-site assessment, an anonymous survey will be sent to every staff member (i.e., classified and
certificated). The survey will collect feedback regarding the entire
building-wide discipline system (i.e., staff visibility, all staff support
for agreed upon building-wide discipline policies, effectiveness of office
referral system, administrative support, violence policy, dress code policy,
student behavior in the halls, student recognition programs, effectiveness
of consequences, etc.).
- Element 2: Onsite assessment: Mark and Chris
will be on site during a student day to observe and take data regarding:
- Student behaviors in the halls, during lunch,
during recess, loading and unloading buses, etc.;
- Frequency of student tardies;
- Teacher and administrator visibility;
- Office referral system;
- Building system of consequences;
- All staff support of building policies;
- Location and impact of building blind spots;
- Critical discipline policies;
- Effectiveness of student recognition programs;
- Awareness by students of building policies;
- All staff awareness and active support of building polices.
- Element 3:
Staff and student
interviews:
Mark and
Chris will
conduct random staff and, in some cases, student interviews.
Student awareness of building-wide discipline policies will be assessed.
Staff awareness and active support of the building-wide discipline policies
will also be assessed.

Element 4:
Report of Findings and Recommendations:
Mark and Chris will meet with the staff
and report findings from the assessment and make specific recommendations
for improvement of the school’s discipline system. A written report
including findings, conclusions, and recommendations will also be given to
building administration.
